Mr. Piyush Goyal

Minister of Railways and Coal Government of India
Government of India

It is with great pride that the Ministry of Railways announces the first transport focused university, The National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI). The University is built on the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to establish a specialised institute focused on transport related academics and research.

Indian Railways has embarked on a transformational journey through the introduction of new trains, high speed trains, dedicated freight corridors, modern stations, and other technological advancements. The modernisation of Indian Railways will therefore require a modern approach to employment and training. I am therefore pleased to inform you all that the NRTI will contribute to boosting the economy through skilling of manpower, fostering innovative entrepreneurship, and promoting efficiency in movement of people and goods. Additionally, it will also help contribute to other flagship programs such as Make in India, Skill India and Start Up India.

I am confident that the NRTI will act as an engine for growth for Railways and will develop a highly qualified and talented workforce that will usher in a new age of transport in India. Through the development of the NRTI we are well equipped to take on the challenges of growth and move one step closer towards Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of a New India.
