Welcome to the National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI), India’s first multi-disciplinary University focused on the transportation sector. The University was launched with the aim of developing a cadre of young professionals who have a holistic understanding of the transportation system and are able to solve the pressing problems in this sector. Undoubtedly, transportation system forms the backbone of the economy and plays a critical role in development of the country.

Right from its inception, the University has focussed on offering world-class education bringing best-practices in curriculum and pedagogy, committed faculty and creating an environment where students can acquire the latest concepts and in depth knowledge and also develop abilities to think critically, innovate and develop new ideas. The unique undergraduate programs cut-across disciplines and offer students a holistic techno-commercial perspective of the transportation sector. The post-graduate programs which will be offered shortly will further enlarge the scope with targeted research and learning from the best in the world.

A unique feature of programs at NRTI which will benefit students immensely, is the opportunity to experience the facilities and infrastructure of Indian Railways and associated establishments as “live laboratories”. Given its Mission to be a world-class institution, the University has forged academic partnerships with ivy league and top-ranked global universities including Cornell University, USA; University of California in Berkeley, USA; Russia University of Transport (MIIT) in Moscow, Russia; and St. Petersburg State Transport University, Russia to offer opportunities to NRTI’s students and faculty for exchange, joint research and learning.

Going forward, NRTI plans to house several new schools and establish Centres of Excellence offering courses from undergraduate to doctoral level and conducting multidisciplinary research in emerging areas.

I am also delighted to have the support and confidence of an eminent Board of Management comprising reputed academicians and professionals including Prof. Sudhir Jain, Director of IIT Gandhinagar; Prof. B.N.
